Comedian, actor and art enthusiast Steve Martin will be headlining the Look 2016 fundraiser for Contemporary Calgary this October.

He will be in conversation with The New Yorker’s Adam Gopnik at the Centennial Planetarium, the future home of Contemporary Calgary, on Oct. 22.

Martin, who has starred in movies such as The Jerk, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Roxanne, is an avid collector and curator of modern and contemporary art and has an interest in Canadian works. He co-curated The Idea of North: The Paintings of Lawren Harris, an exhibit that appeared in the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

Look 2016 will also feature a live auction of modern art. The fundraiser brought in $1-million last year. The City of Calgary has committed $24.5-million towards modernizing the Centennial Planetarium.

Tickets for LOOK2016 will go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m. at contemporarycalgary.com.
